Turf Care Center Update
July 2008
First and foremost, the turf care staff would like to wish
everyone a happy 4th of July.
The heat of summer has arrived which
means the turf care staff has begun
to shift their focus strictly to the maintenance of the golf course and
slightly away from the larger projects that we are able to complete
early in
the spring and later in the fall.
The
upcoming weeks will consist of a lot of mowing and maintenance work to
prepare
the golf course for this year’s 78th
annual fourball tournament.
Right now
the number one priority for the turf care staff is health and condition
of the
turf through out the golf course specifically on the greens. Greens speeds will be
watched closely over
the upcoming weeks as we get closer to the fourball tournament. We will be topdressing all
the greens again
on Monday July 7th.
In
addition we will be doing some core aerification on the 7th
green
that same Monday. This
is in response to
a hydraulic leak that we experienced during our last topdressing
application. We
will also be core
aerifing a couple of tee boxes including #15 and #6.
If anyone has any questions please feel
free
to stop Neil or Dave and we can answer those questions for you.
As some of
you may have noticed the turf care staff did some major pruning along
the right
side of the 6th tee this month.
The purpose of this was two fold, first
it now allows for players to tee
off from the right hand side of the tee box and second it allows for
better air
movement across the tee which promotes turf health and quality.
As most of
you already know the 7th green is now being cut
higher then all of
the other greens and is being cut twice a day.
We intend to maintain the 7th
green at the speed that it is
currently. We hope
that this provides a
much more pleasurable experience for all golfers playing that hole. If anyone has any
questions about the 7th
green feel free to stop either Neil or Dave they will be happy to help
you out.
We would
like to take this opportunity to ask the membership for a little bit of
help
with a couple of small issues. First
and
for most we ask that all members remember that it is the players
responsibility
to repair ball marks. This
will help
ensure that putting surfaces are as smooth and true as possible. In addition we would also
like to ask that
members please pick up their broken tees after hitting and please throw
them
off the tee in the rough, PLEASE DO
NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE YARDAGE STONE ON THE EDGE
OF THE TEE!!!! Broken
tees
left on the tee surface can be very detrimental to our mowing equipment
causing
it to give an untrue cut and cause problems for the inner workings of
the reel
mower itself. In
addition we would also
like to remind the golfers that it is their responsibility to rake
their foot
prints in the sand traps when they have finished playing their shot. We appreciate your help
with these two
matters.
The Turf
Care Crew would like to thank all members who have been up to use the
new
practice area behind the 9th green. We are very excited to see
people enjoying that area and we hope that
everyone finds it to be a pleasurable place to practice their golf
shots. We ask all
members who are using that
facility to please use the divot mix provided at the chipping are to
repair
that divots so that we can maintain the turf at a high quality level.
In closing,
as the heat of Summer is upon us, we hope that everyone is having a
pleasurable
golf season here at CCNB. As
always if
anyone has any questions please feel free to stop by the Turf
Care
Center,
we will be more then happy to
answer any questions that you may have.
Thank You and enjoy Summer!!
